This retreat will put you back in touch with nature, or maybe introduce you for the first time! This experience is designed to pull you out of the day-to-day routine and challenge your habits, vulnerabilities, expectations, strengths, weaknesses and more! While it may feel like you are far from home and in the middle of nowhere, you can rest assured that we will be spending the weekend in a camping area that is supervised and maintained by the state. You can expect limited access to cellular service in some areas. Pretty great, right?

Please Note:
*Camping equipment and hiking gear is not included in the cost.
**Kayaking will be weather dependent and may be substituted with an alternative activity if needed.

Some gear may be available to loan, depending on the number and type of requests.

Camping | what to expect:
-
We will be camping in primitive sites. This means there is no water or electricity at our site; although a portable water supply will be provided for use at camp (For cooking, washing hands, brushing teeth, etc...)

Drinking water will be provided.

Expect to use battery, solar and gas powered gear at the campsite.
-
Expect to enjoy a campfire (pending any burn bans in the area).
-
Expect to toilet in the great outdoors, or walk/drive to a nearby restroom with toilets / showers.

Expect to experience the sights, sounds and company of nature in all of her forms.
-
"leave no trace". campsites should be left in the same or better condition than we found them.

Expect to make new friends or reconnect with old ones!

You will need to own or have access to borrow a tent, sleeping bag, camping chair and basic camp gear. IF you need assistance when putting up your tent, just ask! This is part of the experience. If you are attending the retreat with a friend, you may consider sharing a tent to save space and money.

IMPORTANT: This weekend is focused on your wellbeing and personal growth. Because energy, nutriton and quality sleep are central to the activities during this retreat, the weekend will be enjoyed without alcohol or inhalants. Please respect the group and refrain from these practices.

Hiking | what to expect:
-
Some easy and some more moderately challenging trails will be explored. We'll start slow!
-
Extensive hiking experience is not required. This retreat is suitable for beginner and experienced hikers.
-
Best suited for individuals who are somewhat physically active and steady on their feet.
-
Individuals with arthritis and/or joint replacements have great success as hikers; however, preparation beforehand and care afterward is essential for reducing pain or injury to the area(s).

We will keep a steady pace and stay together as a group to support each other and ensure safety,
-
As these are shorter day hikes (aka "slackpacking") we will not require much equipment while on the trail, you will only need to carry a lightweight backpack with essentials and trekking poles (if using).

You will need to own or borrow hiking shoes/boots, or other trail-appropriate shoes. Foam soled walking shoes will not work on the trail. Waterproof boots or shoes are highly recommended.

trekking (hiking) poles are not required but are highly encouraged.

Kayaking | What to expect:
-
​We will be using kayaks from a local outfitter for a rental fee (included in your total cost).
-
Life jackets are available to use at your discretion and safety level/risk.
-
IF you have your own kayak or watercraft, you are welcome to bring it; however, please note that the cost of the retreat package will not change.

Oars are provided with the kayak rental(s).
-
If you do not wish to particpate in the kayaking activity with the group, please notify me ahead of time so that reservations can be adjusted and alternative activities can be arranged, if needed.

Texas weather is unpredicatable. If rain or thunderstorms prevent a kayaking excursion, all reasonable attempts will be made to enjoy an alternative activity.

Food | What to expect:
-
Healthy, nutrient-dense meals will be provided, including: 2 dinners, 2 breakfasts and 2 light lunches.

Water, unsweetened tea, herbal tea and black coffee will also be provided.
-
Feel free to bring alternative beverages if you like (remember...no alcohol).
-
Some snacks will be available to you; however, you are encouraged to bring along some favorite items to have on hand, especially after a challenging day!

Workshops | what to expect:
-
We will enjoy 4 wellness workshops during this retreat.
-
A casual conversation among participants using a provided workbook for prompts and group discussions.
-
Some activities are best appreciated in a group setting while some will be for your private/individual use.
-
There are no "passing or failing" activities. Think of this time as an opportunity to lean into other women who may share some of the same experiences, strengths, fears and struggles as you. Growth is the goal!
-
Any conversation that is shared should be met with the utmost respect from the group. The old saying is "wolves are not welcome around the campfire", which means everyone's privacy matters. Full stop.
-
Expect laughter. Tears. Joy. And everything in between. This is an opportunity to push yourself in new ways or reacquaint yourself with old ways. What you get from this time away will be a result of what you give.

Safety Note:
Although this is a beginner-level retreat with low risk of injury, outdoor activities (including the activities we will be doing) always come with some level of risk, even for the most experienced individuals. Risk potential should be top of mind for everyone for the duration of this retreat. while it is not anticipated that these skills will be needed, the retreat host is certified in CPR and First Aid, should it be needed. State and County officials are also available in case of an emergency; however please note that response time will be significantly delayed due to the remote location. These are important details to consider when evaluating your suitability and level of comfort for this event.
